She? Well in this particular case, she represents the game of professional football. The culprit…Oakland Raiders Owner, Al Davis! Once a proud organization with tremendous history, has now turned into the NFL Version of The Has Been Clinic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_epC3Zevc8). Aside from young stars, Kirk Morrison, Zach Miller and Nnmandi Asomugha, the Raiders have very few bright spots. But what exactly is the problem? You have a “franchise,” quarterback in JaMarcus Russell, a future star running back in Darren McFadden, a deep threat in Darius Heyward-Bey, and cornerstones on defense…right? The problem is that Al Davis continues to make terrible money decisions. The choices that Davis has made, are to the point that stars seem to immediately fade once they join Raider Nation. Randy Moss is a future Hall of Fame Wide Receiver, and did virtually NOTHING during his tenure in Oakland. Moss’s value was so low, that he was dealt to New England for a 4th Round Pick! Yes, the same Randy Moss who torched NFL Defenses as soon as he stepped on the field as a Rookie. The same Randy Moss who went to New England and immediately broke the NFL Single Season TD Receiving Record, and helped the Pats go undefeated. DeAngelo Hall became a Raider, and a former Raider in the SAME SEASON!!! Hall, never short on confidence, looked like an excellent fit in Oakland. Asomugha locked down his entire side of the field, and with Hall alongside him, they formed the most talented young defending duo in years…Right? Hall was Deep-Fried in his first game as a Raider, by then rookie, Eddie Royal, of the Denver Broncos. Royal made Hall look like the rookie, forcing him to commit personal fouls, and got him completely out of his game mentally. The funny thing about Hall, was that he was developing into a very elite Corner, while in Atlanta. Once the Silver and Black graced Hall’s back, he became Fillet Mignon to opposing NFL Offenses, and was often the preferred special on the menu! Javon Walker is another prime example of Al Davis’s wizardry. Walker was an elite wideout during his time in Green Bay, and even had his run in Denver. However, once those knees seemed to age in dog years, instead of people…Denver cut him loose. Walker worked out, and apparently became an incredible salesman, because no one saw any reflection of the old Javon, except Davis. Davis signed Walker to a 6 year, $55 Million Dollar Deal!!! This signing was easily, one for the Ridiculous List! Javon turned that $55 Million into a brilliant, 15 catch, 196 yard, and 1 Touchdown Performance…in 8 GAMES!!! Walker remains a Raider, and a bonafide bench riding specialist! These are just some flashes of the most recent past, which may help us understand the present a little better.

As we speed up to the present day, we have a Raider team that looked to be headed in a positive direction. Head Coach Tom Cable seemed to light some fire into the team towards the end of last season, and showed promise entering this year. But, I don’t think he factored in possible Assault Charges into the offensive scheme. Cable is on the verge of being arrested, for punching former assistant, Randy Hanson in the face. Looks like Cable was the perfect man for the job! Sitting at 1-3, a seemingly lost franchise, and a quarterback that looks more and more like a bust with each outing…what’s the solution? JaMarcus Russell can throw a football 70 yards, from one knee! How is he so bad? The argument was made that Russell didn’t have the weapons around him that he needed to be successful. However, I believe that Davis is the only real problem. Russell gets the blame for not taking the game serious enough, to where he shows up to camp out of shape, and plays terribly with each game that approaches. I think the reason behind his performance, is the fact that he’s not held accountable for it at all, and he has little to no fear in the organization. The 49ers are atop of their division, and have a new attitude, and motivation, because of Mike Singletary. He’s changed the entire culture in that locker room, and it has shown on the field. The culture and overall mentality speaks volumes, when it comes to on the field production. Shaun Hill doesn’t have an eighth of the talent that Russell has, and manages the offense extremely well. McFadden could easily develop into a player like Frank Gore, and could even exceed Gore’s ability. However, the team as a whole is without direction, and leadership.

Week 4 told this lack of leadership very clearly. The Raiders faced a Houston team, that is at the bottom of the league in overall defense, and they couldn’t produce more than 6 points??? Every running back that has faced Houston has excelled, except for McFadden. Houston stacked the box against Oakland, and showed no respect for the pass at all, which left McFadden with the stat line of a toddler (-3 Rushing Yards, and 5 Rec. Yards). How is it that there is no offensive production coming out of Oakland? Russell has a cannon for an arm, and could easily throw for 4,000+ Yards every season. I’d almost guarantee, that if Rex Ryan, or Mike Singletary was the coach in Oakland, we’d see a very different product on the field. But, Al Davis continues his stronghold over the organization, and we are left to watch them crumble each week. Fantasy Owners of McFadden were probably hoping for a major breakout game, and were left in virtual tears! The funny thing about all of this, is that it’s taken years for people to see that Davis has lost his marbles. I mean, this is the same Al Davis that drafted a trouble making KICKER, in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft! Am I the only person who finds that both weird, and hilarious at the same time? I mean I can understand your need for a kicker…but the first round? 2000 is the exact same draft that Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round! The Patriots really blew that draft opportunity…just think where they’d be right now had they drafted Janikowski!

Never in all my years of being a devoted Sports Fan, Writer, and Athlete, would I ever think I’d reference a Beyonce song, when discussing an athlete. In this case, this is the PERFECT relation to this particular individual. Michael Crabtree, 10th Overall Pick by the San Francisco 49ers, in this year’s NFL Draft. Seen as the #1 player at his respective position, and arguably, in the entire draft, Crabtree remains a holdout. The Wide Receiver has been rumored to be seeking top pick money, when in fact, he was NOT, a top pick. Crabtree wants to be paid as if he was/is, the BEST WR in this year’s draft. However, if we can all backtrack, Darius Heyward-Bey, was drafted in the 7th spot by the Oakland Raiders. While we all laughed at the selection, with the rationale being placed solely on his speed, Bey was indeed the first Receiver off the board. Will he be better than Crabtree? Will he be worthy of the #7 selection? Was this just another bad choice by the Raiders? These are questions which will be posed for the length of their careers, err…ehh…Heyward-Bey’s career that is. Crabtree hasn’t signed with the 49ers yet, and we are entering the 3rd Week of the NFL Season! WHAT is this guy thinking???

Crabtree has rumored to be considering to re-enter the draft next season, sitting out a full NFL Season, based off of his salary demands. The Niners have offered Crabtree a deal which would guarantee him 16 million dollars! Now correct me if I’m wrong, but unless I’m a billionaire, and literally blow my nose in $1,000 bills, and wear a full tuxedo made of diamonds to charity events…I’m NOT in a position to say $16 Million is NOT ENOUGH Money! Yes the analogies were ridiculous, which should further tell you how ridiculous his idea sounds! Maybe someone should refresh his memory about Mike Williams, the talented USC Standout that attempted early entry, and was forced to sit a season. Williams has been tossed around the league, like a rugby ball, and never came close to reaching his potential. With respect to Crab’s talents, he should never see the same pattern in career that befell Williams. However, what does sitting out a season hope to get you? Does he think he’ll be worth 25+ Million Dollars, in guaranteed money? A year AWAY from the game, A year WITHOUT working out for teams, and a year which he sat out BY CHOICE???

The former Texas Tech standout gained a reputation when leading up to the draft…the reputation of extreme arrogance, or in this case, A Diva. Entering the 3rd week in the season, he’s done nothing o displace that claim. Maybe it’s his best bet to sit out, given his head coach is Mike Singletary. Singletary embodied everything that was right about the NFL, while Crabtree has represented quite the opposite. The Niners Coach will most likely have Crabtree running until he fainted, and would probably place him as the 5th option at his position. Sitting atop of their division, it doesn’t look like he’s needed in San Fran, nor missed. While it’s hard to say that any of this would bruise his ego at all, he seems to not really be concerned about playing football, in comparison, to his concern about how much he feels he’s worth. Also to add to the situation, is the current NFL Labor situation, which may enforce a rookie salary cap next season…which it desperately needs. Giving an un-proven player millions of dollars, to have them not perform, is ridiculous to me. Do you think the 49ers regret paying Alex Smith? How about Detroit’s feelings about Charles Rogers? Given the mishaps, there have been success stories, as there are with everything in life. However, Crabtree is fooling himself if he feels he’ll still be the top WR drafted after a year off. Unless he didn’t notice, I’ll point it out…a player named Dez Bryant was statistically better than him last season. Bryant has as much upside, if not more, than Crabtree. Bryant is faster, stronger, and seemingly much more versatile than Crabtree. I myself would trade his rights to a struggling team, who’s looking to add potential to their offense, for a first round pick next season. Imagine how much faster the Niners could improve with an additional pick! They could be in a position to draft both, Dez Bryant, and All World Talent, Taylor Mays, or Eric Berry. Bryant gives you that legit weapon at Wideout, while Berry and Mays, could both be the 2nd coming of Ronnie Lott!

Crabtree should look at players like Andre Johnson as a prime example of what a Receiver SHOULD be. Johnson has been a member of the Houston Texans for his entire NFL Career, and has nothing to show for it, outside of individual success. Yet he’s never publicly voiced his displeasure with the organization, demanded a trade, nor complained about his Quarterback. Instead, Johnson has gone out and performed, and is recognized as arguably the best in the game, at his position. Johnson has all the right to complain, and could easily command several draft selections in a trade from a team. The Texans have been an under-achieving team for years, and Johnson could be 10x as good, if he played with a consistent, elite QB…versus the oft-injured Schaub. So far, Crabtree’s done nothing to disprove his diva-like attitude, that scared teams away from him in the draft. At this point, it’s just a wonder if the damage has been done beyond repair, or is there time for him to seal the wounds, and prove his talent on the field?

After two years of controversy, two years of being an example, two years of having questions about whether or not you’ll get a 2nd chance…Michael Vick has signed a 2 year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. While this isn’t a place where Vick will be asked to step back into football and be, “The Man,” he will be brought into a very good situation. Vick will be surrounded by a very stable franchise, and a contending franchise, at that. Vick will be a backup to one of the game’s best, Donovan McNabb. There will also be times where Vick will be featured along with McNabb, which would be a Defensive Nightmare, for the opposition. Vick’s speed and athleticism, are huge assets for the Eagles now, to go with a seemingly re-loaded offensive unit. Once he’s able to display his current conditioning, the Eagles will have a better idea as to where, and when, he’ll play.

Philly most recently suffered a loss in backup QB, Kevin Kolb. Kolb suffered a sprained MCL, and seemed like he’d be alright with a few days rest. While Kolb could be fine, it was definitely a cause for concern, within the Philadelphia organization. Mcnabb, who has a history of injuries, will now have to do his best to stay healthy, if the Eagles are to reach full potential. However, Vick gives the team, a legitimate Quarterback to step in, in case of a McNabb injury. But, having both Quarterbacks on the field at once, forces Defensive Coordinators to account for both, and creates an abundance possibilities.

Why It Works…

Vick steps into this situation as another weapon for the Eagles to implement within the offense. Imagine a scene where McNabb is in the shotgun, with both Michael Vick and Brian Westbrook split in the backfield, DeSean Jackson split wide to the left, Jeremy Maclin split wide to the right, and LeSean McCoy in the slot to the right…That is a tremendous amount of speed on the field. There isn’t one player on the offense that you can double team now, and you have to prepare for ANYTHING! The playbook will most certainly be, “Opened Up,” and be sure to feature a lot of trick plays. The third and short situations that plagued the Eagles a year ago, should now be a thing of the past. I for one, will be very interested in what’s to come for the Philadelphia offense. Eagles Fans are also very extremely passionate fans, who embrace players that play hard, which is perfect for Vick. Not to mention, the Eagles went thru an extensive process before signing Vick, including speaking to the Mayor of the city, as well as the Animal Rights Groups in the city. All parties gave their blessing for the Eagles to pursue Vick, as well as, Tony Dungy and Commissioner Goddell approving the situation.

Why It Doesn’t Work…

If McNabb struggles at all, you can bet your life savings, that the fans will get on his back, and call for Vick to play. While I don’t anticipate a situation like that, it is very much a possibility. At that point, you have your franchise quarterback, now looking over his shoulder. Also what’s not to be forgotten…the reasons why Vick was incarcerated, and what the reception will be amongst the PETA organization in Philadelphia. The media will stir up a Quarterback controversy, and the questions about starting Vick will begin to come up. Does Vick’s presence cause a distraction, more than it does an asset? Vick’s contract is also a 2-year deal, which is the exact same length of McNabb’s current deal…so who do you re-sign? While Vick’s expected to play nice this season, he’ll want to compete for a starting position entering his 2nd year.

Either way, this is a great day for Vick, his fans, and his family. This man has served his time, and now embraces his gifts, and opportunities. He will undoubtedly do all he can to excel, and fit in. Michael Vick has now created an even further excitement within the Philadelphia Franchise, and hope that goals can be reached. I hope that Vick proves all doubters wrong, and takes his career and character, to new heights.

With Michael Vick being conditionally re-instated into the National Football League, where does he go? Which team would want him? Who could use him? Would you sign him? The thing with Vick, he’s always been a phenomenal athlete, but a mediocre quarterback. Also, the teams that are best for Mike’s physique, aren’t the best fit for him team-wise. Teams like San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, New England, New York Jets and Miami, would all be good for Mike Vick’s mental state, and are heavily disciplined teams. Tampa Bay, Arizona, Chicago, Philadelphia, Tennessee and Baltimore are also teams with solid leadership that could guide Vick back into normalcy. However, those teams aren’t necessarily ideal fits for Vick. When a team is to consider signing the only Quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards, you have to be willing to gamble both on the field, and off. I’ve been an advocate for Vick to get a 2nd chance, but there has been no denial of a potential PETA Protest, and media frenzy that will surround his future destination. Former Head Coach Herman Edwards said it best, when he referred to Vick as a, “Specialist,” type of player at this point. Vick’s athleticism is what separates him from every other quarterback in the league, but will he remain at that position?

A team like Jacksonville, who has an aging quarterback in David Garrard, would be a nice place for Vick to play. He could serve as a, “Wildcat,” type of player, and also provides a legitimate backup for Garrard. There’s also an argument of the fact that Vick has never really played with an abundance of talent around him. Roddy White was a young receiver when he played with Vick, and was still very much in his developmental stages. Considering White’s development, Alge Crumpler was the only target Vick had to throw to. How would Vick perform as Arizona’s backup? The knock on Matt Leinart is his arm strength, amongst other things, and that is one thing Vick had plenty of. What about a team that loves to experiment, like the Washington Redskins? Daniel Snyder has always been the one Owner willing to break the bank, to make a Winner. At this point, it’s difficult to say where he could play, or where he’d fit, until we see him play. Seeing Vick develop at another position would be nice, but given the time constraints, and his angst to return to the field, developing at a Receiver position seems unlikely. There have been several players that have made the transition to WR, from the Quarterback position. Antwaan Randle-El, Hines Ward, Kordell Stewart, Matt Jones, Ronald Curry, Anquan Boldin, Brad Smith and most recently, Pat White, are all former Quarterbacks that made the position change to Wideout. Boldin, Ward and Randle-El have been the most successful of this particular group, with Matt Jones coming off his most productive season last year. NFL Rookie, Michael Crabtree came into Texas Tech as a Quarterback, and was considered the best Wideout in the draft. While it is possible to experience success, as Devin Hester has proven, it isn’t easy at all.

In considering his return, what team is he best suited for? Where would you like to see him play? If you were a GM, would you sign him? What position would you like to play him at, or look to develop him for the future?

It has been two full NFL Seasons since we’ve seen the athleticism of Michael Vick grace the NFL Gridiron. With Vick’s time now fully served, besides his probation period, he is now able to resume his career. With a ruling expected to come at some point on Monday, there is already speculation of what we should expect. Commissioner Roger Goddell is expected to suspend Vick for the start of the NFL Season for 2-6 games. For anyone that’s committed some sort of personal conduct violation, that would seem like a normal penalty, and a just one. However, Michael Vick has already missed 32 NFL Regular Season Games! What exactly will 4 more games do to Vick, that the previous 32 already haven’t? Vick has been stripped of all he’s earned as a professional. His personal life has been effected, his financial well-being has be damaged greatly, and his overall image, tarnished. There is absolutely no reason to further wound this man. Vick had something taken away from him, that was his means to life, as well as those he supports. Going through all he’s had to endure over the last two years, I’m sure that the lesson has been learned. There have been numerous coaches, and/or respectable figures, that have come to Vick’s aid. Tony Dungy, a highly respected man, as well as very storied NFL Coach, has come to the aid of Michael Vick. Dungy, a man know for his strong faith, and guidance, has taken a mentoring role for Vick. Having an influence like Dungy, there’s is no doubt that Vick will be a changed man, and a man that will value all things that are to come his way.

Recently, Terrell Owens spoke out about the possible suspension of Vick, and spoke critically of the Commissioner’s possible decision. Owens, never one to hold his tongue on camera, actually spoke the total truth, in my opinion. Vick’s being kicked while he’s down, and un-rightfully so. Vick’s served his time, and paid his debt to society. Also, not to forget, Vick was already suspended by the league for his crime, which was served in conjunction with his sentencing. The extra 4 games (the expected ruling), seem like the Commissioner putting his stamp on the situation even further. Goddell has ruled with an iron fist, since his introduction as the new face of the league. He’s changed the culture, in making players accountable for their actions, as he should. However, there have been players who have done far worst things, and have been given a second chance. Matt Jones, former Jaguars Wide Receiver, was arrested on felony cocaine charges, and played all but three games last season. Jones was given a three game suspension, which he fought with an appeal, that stretched out for the entire season. However, Brandon Marshall, had his troubles off the field involving domestic violence, and was initially suspended three games at the start of the season. Marshall’s suspension was reduced to one game, but it was served immediately entering the season. It seemed to be a very nonchalant situation, with regards to dealing with Jones’ case. While I don’t want to bring any racial implications into any of this, it’s something that people will definitely look at.

Instead, I’d like to pose a question to the readers…If Peyton Manning had gotten caught fighting dogs what would his punishment have been? Would his punishment have been equal to Vick’s to the letter, or would it have been substantially less? If Tom Brady was caught driving drunk, or rumored to have been involved in a domestic violence case, what would his punishment be? Is there a racial divide in the NFL? And is Vick being treated unfairly?

The NFL, and truly, The World, has lost a Great, Fearless Athlete, and Person, in Steve “Air,” McNair. Gone before his time, McNair was shot and killed in his Nashville Condo, early on July 4th. McNair embodied the true meaning of what the NFL is about, with his toughness, heart, and overall competitive spirit. He was also a prominent and active member of his community, displaying only class on and off the playing field. Third Overall pick in the ’95 draft, McNair’s talent had already been recognized. Coming from a very small school like Alcorn State, to be selected that high, spoke volumes of what the NFL was to expect. After 13 seasons, the NFL has never seen a more fearless competitor, than Steve McNair. A 3-Time Pro Bowler, and Co-MVP of the NFL, McNair has put together quite the Professional Resume, including a Super Bowl Birth, in 2003. The Titans came within a yard of a Super Bowl victory against the St. Louis Rams, and McNair led the way.

He is most remembered for the way he played the game, as both the field leader at Quarterback, and emotional leader in the locker room. McNair placed the team on his back with each snap, and never quit on his team under any circumstance. As an African American Quarterback, McNair has set the standard for how many approached the game thereafter. Players like Vince Young, Donovan McNabb, Dante Culpepper, and Michael Vick, all played the game with tremendous athleticism, almost mirror images of a Young McNair. If the NFL Players of today played with half the heart that McNair played with, the game would be head and shoulders above all sports. At 36, a True Warrior has been called home, but his legacy will forever, play on.

Fantasy Impact : Moreno can be the lone ray of hope to come from the Josh McDaniel’s Era. With star Wideout, Brandon Marshall, asking to be traded, and Pro Bowl Quarterback, Jay Cutler, throwing passes in Chicago, Moreno could shine. Even with the offseason acquisition of Correll Buckhalter, the week one starter will most likely be Moreno. With Denver’s Zone Blocking Scheme, besides the inconsistency at the RB position last year, Denver’s thrived in the running game. Moreno is in line for the most carries out of the Denver Backfield, and if Marshall is traded, he’ll most likely be the lone offensive threat. A year removed from one of the highest scoring offenses, the Broncos are almost rebuilding completely on offense. With Kyle Orton running the ship, Moreno will be heavily relied on, much like last year’s rookie sensation, Matt Forte, in Chicago. It remains to be seen how consistent Orton can be with a legitimate receiving corps, (Marshall, Royal, Scheffler). If Orton can keep the defense honest, and prevent them from stacking the box, Moreno could be in line for a major rookie season.

Fantasy Impact : Wells might not have been the first running back taken in the draft, but he may be the most fortunate of them all. Wells will almost certainly beat out Tim Hightower, as the Cardinals lead back this season. The reason, Wells isn’t suited for a 3rd Down Backs Role, as his speed and size isn’t typical for that type of role. Hightower, a more shifty style runner, is much more suited for the 3rd down role, which he should find success. Wells will also join the most potent passing game in the league, led by Kurt Warner, and All Pro WR’s Larry Fitzgerald, and Anquan Boldin. Not to be outdone, Jeremy Urban, and Steve Breaston will also provide very solid targets for Warner once again, which will leave gaping holes for Wells to dart through. With that formidable passing attack, Wells will face very lightly stacked defensive fronts, and provides the sturdy, move-the-chains, type of back. Wells should make a legitimate run at offensive Rookie of the Year this year, and will be a nice fantasy back, as a 3rd option, with 2nd option numbers by season’s end.

Fantasy Impact : Maclin will have big shoes to follow, as last year’s rookie standout, DeSean Jackson, proved to be worth the 2nd round selection, and filled a major void as an outside threat. Much like Jackson, Maclin has return capabilities, as well as game-breaking speed. Maclin will most likely have to earn his way onto the field, in the beginning. However, keep in mind, the Eagles traded up to draft Maclin, so the sideline will not be familiar with him at all. Maclin will most likely begin as the slot receiver, and return kicks. He also couldn’t have ended up in a better situation, than to play with a weapons hungry, Donovan McNabb. The Eagles were in the tops in the league in offensive production last season, with Jackson serving as McNabb’s favorite target. With defenses now having to scheme around Jackson, Maclin should be in line for big numbers. If he proves himself early in both training camp, as well as, early in the season, Maclin may be challenging for the Offensive Rookie Of The Year.

Fantasy Impact : It wasn’t long ago that the Colts drafted highly talented Running Back, Joseph Addai, out of LSU. Addai came on with a very solid rookie season, and followed it up with an even more impressive sophomore campaign. However, the injury bug has slowed Addai most recently, causing concern in the Colts’ backfield. For the injury risk alone, Donald Brown should be in line for heavy offensive contributions. Brown has the skill-set to match perfectly with the style of play that the Colts employ. With All-Pro, Peyton Manning under center, Brown shouldn’t face too many stacked defensive fronts. Brown has drawn comparisons to a former Colts great, Marshall Faulk, who gave defenses headaches when they tried to defend against him. Look for Brown to start off slowly, but emerge as the go-to man for the Colts near mid-season.

Deon Butler Team : Seattle Seahawks Position : Wide Receiver

Fantasy Impact : With former Nittany Lion, and Seattle Possession Receiver, Bobby Engram, moving on to Kansas City, a huge void was left open in the Seattle Wide Receiving Corps. Butler has drawn comparisons to Engram, who was very sure-handed for the Hawks, during his tenure. Butler will also benefit from playing alongside TJ Houshmanzadeh, and Deion Branch, leaving lots of room for Butler to work. It was also rumored that Butler was out performing Branch, and could very well move into the 2nd WR Role, bumping Branch to the Slot Position. While it’s hard to imagine Butler unseating Branch, former Pro Bowl QB, Matt Hasselback, is back in the driver’s seat, and playing with a chip on his shoulder. Seattle is not far removed from a Super Bowl berth, but fell victim to the injury bug last season, ultimately shattering any playoff hopes. With Hasselback poised to return the Seahawks to a team of winning stature, Butler should be a direct beneficiary of the resurrected Hasselback, who’s sure to unleash on the opposition.

Honorable Mention : Percy Harvin (WR, Minnesota Vikings), Harvin’s success will ultimately depend on the QB of the Vikings this season. If Brett Favre decides to return to the field, Harvin would be much more likely to have the better season, when matched up against Deon Butler. Harvin is sure to be utilized in multiple facets of the Vikings’ offense, and should be very solid.

Shonn Greene (RB, N.Y. Jets), Greene’s success also depends on the situation of current starter, Thomas Jones. Jones wants a new contract, and looks to have fallen on deaf ears in his requests. If Jones is traded, which is very possible, upgrade Greene’s status to the possible 3rd best RB in the class. The Jets have a lot of young talent in place, and Greene is poised to carry the team into the foreseeable future, with Leon Washington serving as the change-of-pace back. The Jets will be an exciting team in the year’s to come, and Green could be the man to lead them, possibly sooner, than later.

Recently former Falcons QB, Michael Vick was released from federal prison, for his roll in an illegal dogfighting operation. Vick was once a very prolific figure in the NFL, and the face of the Atlanta Franchise. Vick, like many young black athletes, are seen as the savior to their family, and close friends. Vick allowed many people to remain close to him, and entrusted a lot in many of these people. What’s sad is, while Vick is responsible for his actions, it was many of those, “friends,” that have led to his fall from grace.

Mike was a mediocre quarterback in the NFL, but a phenomenal athlete. Vick made most plays with his feet, but possessed a cannon, for an arm. There was always the argument of how good Vick could be if adequate talent was placed around him. What’s sad about this whole thing, that may be a question that will forever go unanswered. Upon completion of his house arrest this summer, Vick will apply for reinstatement to the NFL, and if proven remorseful, will most likely be granted it. The question looming, which team will take a chance on the troubled QB? Also, what position will Vick play upon his return. At this stage, what’s most important, Vick’s well being as a person, and how he can adjust to being amongst society again. I for one, believe Vick got a very bad deal, and served more time than some convicted killers, and rapists in this country. While I’m not condoning Vick’s actions, I’m merely sympathising the loss at which he’s incurred. He was a storybook athlete his entire life, and had his best year’s still ahead of him, as Atlanta was steadily improving the team around him. I’ll still wonder what could have been, had a player like Terrell Owens been paired with Vick, or a player the caliber of Steve Smith, who could match Vick’s athleticism.

In today’s league, Vick can fit right in to a team that operates with a Wildcat style of play. A team like Minnesota could definitely use Vick, but will they take a chance on him? This is also dependent upon the likely return of Brett Favre, who is Viking bound himself. But, no doubt, there are teams that could use him. The best fit in my opinion, would be the San Francisco 49ers. Mike Singletary would take Vick aside and get him to forget about his short-comings, and allow him to concentrate on football once again. While he’s made a bad choice for himself, and has undoubtedly suffered the consequences, he deserves a 2nd chance. Let’s wait and see if that 2nd chance does come for Vick, and how he will respond to the opportunities presented moving forward.

Similar to the If You Build It NBA Series…take YOUR favorite football team, and put the pieces in place you’d think would put you over the top. It’s a little different to build a franchise in the NFL, versus the NBA. The Salary Cap, and Roster Depth make it a little harder to do the whole building, type scenario. So in that, take your favorite team, and put the pieces around whomever, to make it a winner. Who’d you replace? What holes would you fill? Does your team lack a consistent QB? Are you still missing that Pass Rusher? You be the judge of YOUR team, but be realistic. If your favorite team is the Colts, you have Peyton Manning at QB, so to say you’d want Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Calvin Johnson all on the team with him, isn’t realistically possible. Yeah you could argue, what if all of them were willing to take a pay cut to play together…NO! Why would you, they’re some of, if not the best at their positions…so…be real with your changes. Now if you’re substituting someone with an older player, like T.O. at WR, then ok…reason because more than likely he’d be on a short-term deal…and wouldn’t be too costly on the books…My Team…

The Philadelphia Eagles

On Offense… The building blocks are finally being put around McNabb, after 10 years!…Better late than never I guess. I’d keep McNabb in place, and the O-line seems to be rebuilt after a ton of age/injuries, slowed them down. I’da liked to see the Eagles get Knowshon Moreno, but I think Jeremy Maclin along with DeSean Jackson, are the speed McNabb needs on the outside. I still think they need a possession WR, that has the ability to go over the middle, and make the tough catches. I’d put Anquan Boldin in this position, which he’d be the #1 guy, Maclin moving to the #2, and Jackson in his true position in the slot position. Westbrook is the pass-catching back that McNabb needs, but as a main back I’m not so sure. I’d employ a two-back system in Philly, with Marion Barber as the bruiser, and Chris Johnson as the home-run/speed-back. I would’ve said Reggie Bush, but some may view that as not being realistic. Celek is a solid TE, that showed flashes of ability last season, but I’d prefer Greg Olsen at TE. Olsen has hands, and ran one of the best 40′s at his combine when he came out. So the new look Eagles offense would look like…

QB – McNabb, RB – Marion Barber, 3rd-Down/Change of Pace Back – Chris Johnson, WR’s – Anquan Boldin, Jeremy Maclin, DeSean Jackson, TE – Greg Olsen

On Defense… The Eagles have lost their heart when B.Dawk left for Denver, sad sad day in Philly. It’s hard to replace that, so we’ll start there. I’d like to have Adrian Wilson at SS, who is in that B.Dawk mold. LaRon Landry is an agressive young beast I’d put next to Wilson, at FS. I def. like Asante Samuel at Corner, as the #1 Cover-man on the team, to team up with him is a little difficult, because of trying to be realistic. I’d def. put Nmandi Asomugha across from him, but he’s well underpaid/under-appreciated in Oakland, and would command #1 Corner bread, that Samuel already has. I’d def. spend most of my money on building my defense, with most of my offense coming at a bargain price. I’d put Darelle Revis across from Samuel at Corner. To man the middle of the Defense, Patrick Willis, who’s a tackling MACHINE, something the Eagles have lacked on D since Jeremiah Trotter was in his prime. Lance Briggs would also be a nice compliment on the outlside, with Willis. I’d also like another pass rusher, like Justin Tuck, because he can also play the run, which is important. The new look Eagles defense would look like…

LB – Patrick Willis, LB – Lance Briggs, LB – Stewart Bradley, SS – Adrian Wilson, FS – LaRon Landry, CB – Darelle Revis, CB – Asante Samuel, DE – Justin Tuck, DE – Trent Cole

Here we go again! Why is 137 Year Old Brett Favre attempting to come back….AGAIN! If my memory serves me correct, back to last yr that is, Favre stunk it up in N.Y. Yeah he had a couple bright spots here and there, but outside of that ONE game versus Arizona, where he threw 6TD’s, he didn’t really do a whole lot more than that. He brought a sense of confidence back to the team, yes…and forced defenses to play honest and not crowd the box, yes…but what about the games he gave away with late game INT’s??? Ok, so we’ll just call it a lost season…but why come back…AGAIN!!! This time, Favre seems like he’s coming back, just to get back at Green Bay! For one, Brett had the ball in his court immediately after they lost the NFC Championship game in 2008 to the Giants, but took too long, and flip-flopped on his decision. Brett, why would u bail on a team that should’ve gone to the Super Bowl that year? Clearly you were right there, but you’d rather retire? Dummy! Then you cause all this drama, like a school-girl, and cry your way to New York, and then, you disappoint! So instead of a graceful bow-out, you’re plotting a return with the Vikings. I mean the Vikings could do better with a High School QB, or Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite at QB, versus what they have now! But Brett, think about what you’re doing…you’re coming back to get back at the city that adores you, worships you, names their children after you! WHY? Just because you feel like they mistreating you as an organization…You’ve been playing FOREVER…I mean how long you want Aaron Rodgers to sit on the bench man? Sheesh…you’re obsession rivals that of a classic movie, Swim Fan, where no didn’t mean know to a the young lady…Lol…Please LET IT GO!!! There is a Nursing Home with your name on it, or of course u could get a reality tv show, continue your Strangler Jeans commercials, or go on Dancing With The Stars…There are options After Football…Sheesh!
